APPLE WORKS ENTHUSIAST
< TAWUG continues to grow all the time. By the time you :
8read this, we will have duplicated our 1000th disk, all
since the end of April!?
= My new "toy" is a 1 meg Checkmate MulitRam RGB card. I <
:got it partly to speed up the copying of template disks. ?
=Using it with Locksmith 6.0, I can load a disk side into RAM =
;and then copy it over and over to a disk. I can label and <
:copy 10 disks on both sides in less than 8 minutes. I am 9
7also using the RAM card for AppleWorks, of course, and ;
9really like the speed obtained without disk access. But ?
=what is really nice is using the RAM card with PROSEL. With <
:PROSEL, I can have AppleWorks with MacroWorks, AppleWorks >
<with PinPoint (mainly for the Speller), Ascii Express, Copy =
;II+, Sensible Grammar, and the PROSEL utilities all in RAM ?
=and easily accessible. See the files on PROSEL elsewhere on
this disk.
SOME HOUSEKEEPING?
= I mentioned above my copying of disks with my new RAM. <
:I can now copy popular disks ahead of time, and when your >
<order comes in, I can fill it quickly. That means that you >
<may not get your disks back. Rather, I will sometimes send @
>a precopied disk and use "your" disk later for someone else. ?
=We use only double density/double sided disks and verify all 5
3copies. However, if for some reason you want your ,
particular disks back, just let me know.
1 We have had our first 2 checks returned for =
;insufficient funds recently. I try to get your orders out >
<and mailed within 48 hours. Your checks, however, are kept =
;for a week or so until I get enough to make it worth while =
;running them over to our treasurer's house. Our treasurer :
8would be more comfortable if we deposited checks first, ?
=waited for them to clear, and then sent the orders. I don't =
;want to do this so please make sure you have the money in <
:your account. We can't keep TAWUG templates and services (
priced so low without your support.
9 Several members have send "preorders" for disks. I >
<have orders through disk 48 waiting on my disk. However, I 9
7am not very comfortable with this. We do deposit your =
;preorder checks so you have "spent" your money and have to =
;wait to the templates are finished (for #47/48 it could be ?
=several months and we can't control this amount of time). I >
<would be happier if you want to stay on top of the TEMPLATE ;
9AVALANCE if you would just send a self-addressed stamped ;
9postcard or envelope to us. Then when the next template =
;disk is ready I will drop it into the mail. When you send =
;in your order, you can include another postcard or envelop >
<for the next disk. I'll have less to keep track of and you ?
=will be able to get the new disks within 7 to 14 days. Fair
enough?
CATALOG DISK=
; If you have ordered the catalog disk lately, you will ;
9have noticed a new file called "AW.BIBLIOGRAPHY" on it. 7
5With this file, I am trying to keep track of as many =
;AppleWorks articles, reviews, software, and hardware items 9
7as possible. If you know of some that are not listed, =
;please send them on to be included. Currently I read Call ;
9A.P.P.L.E., InCider, A+, InfoWorld, Exclusive AppleWorks :
8Reference, Scarlet, and Nibble. I'd appreciate help on =
;articles and reviews from other sources that are available
to most people.
8 The annotations are almost finished on the catalog ;
9disk. We are planning to do a mass mailing when this is ?
=finished to all the members. We will do a FREE catalog disk :
8update to anyone with a labeled catalog disk when it is ?
=returned to us with return postage. Since we do the current 9
7catalog with each new template disk, you can keep your $
catalog disk current at all times.
7 On the membership file we now have a notation for :
8occupation or special interests ie. doctors, lawyers, =
;teachers, user group, etc. If your entry is blank and you =
;would like to be listed in a particular way, please let me >
<know. This way people with similar interests can find each )
other and share ideas or suggestions.
OTHER NEWS9
7 TAWUG has joined, along with other Apple computer <
:clubs, Apple's new program for clubs. We will be able to :
8share news from Apple with you via our AWE file and any :
8other way we can. Apple has asked for a listing of our :
8members so they can do direct mailings to you. We have ?
=decided to do this because we felt it would be beneficial to =
;you. So you can expect some direct mailings from Apple to
you.
6 Another benefit to clubs has been Apple's use of :
8CompuServe. They have a section in MAUG for Apple club >
<"Ambassedors" where they will post info of special interest >
<to clubs. I will read this peroidically and share anything 6
4of value with you. As a side benefit, I now have a ?
=CompuServe mailbox where you can reach me and TAWUG. My box ?
=# is 73527,67. Since I still have to pay for my time on the <
:system, I will only be checking in about once a week. If =
;you want to communicate with me this way, please feel free >
<to do so. (GENIE and TAWUG don't seem to be going anywhere -
together at this time - a good idea but ?).
NEWSNET=
; A large percentage of our members seem to be teachers ;
9and/or librarians so I thought the following information 8
6might be of interest to you. NEWSWEEK Magazine has a ?
=service for educators called NEWSNET. It is a collection of 8
6Social Studies Data Base files divided into 3 areas: 9
7"Geography incorporates environmental data with urban, ?
=political, historical, cultural, and economic statistics for =
;an investigation of the impact of gerography on our live. 6
4Military conflict explores why nations go to war by ;
9examining qualitative as well as quantitative political, =
;economic, and social data. The U.S. Budget traces federal =
;spending since 1850 to compare, contrast, and evaluate our ?
=national agenda." NewsWorks costs $29.95 with subscriptions ;
9to Newsweek. For more information try calling the order 9
7number at 800-526-2595 or your local Newsweek regional
director.
